I wanted to mention communication when managing a project. It could really be any project really, such as a group project or a project for a new product. I am giving the basic communication for now.
Communication among team members is incredibly important to a projects success. You need to be able to determine who is in charge of communicating what to whom.
There are different types of communication.
First, there can be internal communication or external communication.
Internal Communication is when people in a company, school, etc. or internal stakeholders on the project need to communicate with each other.
External Communication is when people need to communicate with others outside of their company, school, etc and external stakeholders.
Second, there can be four types of communication between the internal and/or external groups.
Informal Written is when someone on the project has to give some type of writing to another person. For example, this is like a status report to the CEO of the company. This is just to let him know where you are on the project.
Formal Written is when someone on the project needs to write a complete official report, important updates, or a report on what to expect next that will go to a company or someone else. For example, this is like a report that could go out to the writer of a newspaper. I am the Project Manager of a game company, and I want them to know what new releases are coming out soon.
Informal Verbal is when someone on the project just communicates with another person assigned to that project. For example, I am the Project Manager for the game company mentioned above, and I need to meet with my fellow project managers in regards to the project we are working on to get some ideas. I could go over to their desk and throw around some ideas.That is an example of informal verbal.
Formal Verbal is when someone on the project needs to communicate high level information in a professional way to other people. For example, I am now the Director of Project Management for Peggy Roe, Inc. I need to meet with other employees of the organization to discuss any of the next steps we are taking in a project, any concerns anyone has, and what to expect next. I would call a meeting and give a speech on the project we are working on.

You can also apply for the PMP after you meet certain criteria for the certification. This makes you more marketable on your resume, and can help you make at an average of 20% more. This is well worth it, and if you utilize these concepts, then you can pass the test easily.
